Complete a five-day activity streak for five weeks in a row

What’s good for your heart is good for your brain, and by cutting out smoking, being physically active and eating a balanced diet you will help lower your risk of heart disease - but very few people realise you’ll be helping reduce your risk of dementia too.

Take on Give Five and complete a five-day activity streak for five weeks in a row to get your blood pumping, so your body and brain feel the benefit.

Complete it in five weeks between 15 February and 18 April and help fund life-changing dementia research.

Ellie's story

Every day of 2020, Ellie pulled on her running shoes and completed a 5k.

She was inspired by her grandfather, who is living with Alzheimer’s disease, and her nan, “his carer and his rock”.

She said: “I asked Nan what cause I should support and she said it’s research that will make the difference.”

Like Ellie, you can take on your own epic challenge with Give Five when you complete a five-day activity streak for five weeks in a row.

Choose your activity

Your Give Five challenge should be just that: a challenge! So why not ask your friends, family and colleagues to sponsor you £5 for every week you complete, or £5 for each different exercise you do?

The walking challenge

If you’re inspired by Ellie, why not walk a 5k a day, five days a week, for five weeks?

The “mix it up” challenge

Monday, yoga. Tuesday’s run day. Wednesday? A bike ride. Thursday, how about Zumba. Friday, try that new exercise class. Mix it up and get your heart pumping!

Why not decide on the day – or better yet ask your friends to choose your exercise challenge for the day in return for a £5 donation!

The Garmin Run Challenge

  1. Sign up here to create your fundraising page – this is where people will sponsor you and you can post updates on your progress!
  2. Share your page! Tell everyone what you’re doing and why you’re supporting dementia research.
  3. Get tracking. Download your handy five-week schedule here to keep track of your activities!
  4. The challenge is on! Watch your fundraising go up and unlock virtual badges as you go! Plus we'll be giving away a Garmin Forerunner 45 every week!
  5. Complete the challenge by 18 April and aim to raise £100 (if you raise £200 or more you’ll get a free t-shirt! 👕)
  6. Make a difference. The money you raise will help us spread the word about the benefits of good brain health, and fund more research into dementia and ways in which we may be able to prevent it in the future.
